Our Genre.

Drama genre:

Drama is a genre that depends mostly on realistic character dealing with emotion themes. Dramatic themes such as alcohol, drug addiction, racial prejudice, religious intolerance, poverty, abusive relationships, crime and corruption. They put the characters in conflict with themselves, others and society.

All film genres can include dramatic elements, but drama films focus on the drama of the main issue within the film.

Thriller genre:

Thrillers mainly have an atmosphere of menace, violence, crime and murder by showing society as a dark, corrupt and dangerous, although they often have a happy ending in which the antagonist gets killed or arrested.

Social realism grenre:

Social realism in films is representative of real life, with all its difficulties. The stories and people portrayed are everyday characters, usually from working class backgrounds. Typically, films within the social realist canon are gritty, urban dramas about the struggle to survive the daily grind.

About a girl.

Holly,Vicki and I watched this short film together. We all liked this film and the storyline inspired us for our short film. We decided we would like to do a shocking drama/thriller. This short film is a Drama so we are taking aspects out of this film and using them for ours.

This is quite shocking at the end because nobody knows the girl has had a baby and at the end we find out because she throw a bag into the canal and when it's in the water we see the baby come out the bag. We particularly like this aspect because we want the audience to be shocked in our film.

In this short film a girl is talking about her life walking along a canal and she's happy. She makes her life sound better then it is, then after she talks about each thing it shows us what actually happened. It's not what she says it is, she seems quite lonely in real life, but doesn't act it when she's talking about events that have happened.

As a group we liked this and decided to base our film on somebody talking about their life but in a happy way but through a video which somebody is watching. Ours is going to be totally different but just based on the idea of somebody being happy when really they haven't got a good life.

Mud Boy

This film is quite shocking and this is what we want to in-cooperate into our short Drama/Thriller film.

This film is shocking because as the audience we have no idea the girl is about to uncover her 'missing' brother. The fact when she discovers him when he's dead is even more shocking. We want to make the audience as shocked as this when creating out short film but not in the same way. The little girl is very young looking about 8/9, so it's not the type of thing you would want anybody to discover let alone a young girl.

The thing i like about this is that the storyline is hard to understand at first as i thought she discovered her brother Alive. Then it isn't until right near the end when i realised he was obviously dead. This makes the film more interesting as it questions the audience a lot.

They have used a lot of shot reverse shot so the viewers can see who is talking when the girl is talking to her 'dead' brother outside.

A lot of the lighting in this seems to be natural lighting as most of the film is shot outside.

When the police officer is taking the girl away the shot is shallow depth of field. Allowing the background to not be noticed as it's blurred so the audience concentrate on the police officer and girl. I hope we can use this in our film so the audience can concentrate on what we want them to the most. Therefore we need to make the main things in focus and the less important thing out of focus in some shots.

Snap.

In this film they have used a dramatic soundtrack every time an owner to a different camera is the camera thief. As this is meant to show he has stolen camera's off multiple people. This is why he is wearing a different shirt each time and why you see different men chasing after him.

The way the thief of the camera's has captured the emoitions in this film shown at the end is by using photography. Art is a good way to potray emotion and this is done very well by using photography which is a type of art.

This whole film is outside therefore it's natural lighting. Although it looks like they may have edited the lighting a little more yellow as the film seems more yellow then the natural lighting should be.
Most of the editing in this film in continuity editing.

Lifeline.

There is no language in this film just a soundtrack building up through out. They have done this to creat tension and the way they've made the music go fast and louder as the film progresses is to make you feel worried as if something is going to appear on the screen or if it's going to make you jump. Although it doesn't thats how the audience will feel.

You can clearly see they have thought carefully about the props in this film. I feel they have used props quite well and would like to make sure we use props well in our film.

I also like how they've used hand held camera as the boy is running as you feel like your with the boy more with a hand held camera. If we incorporate anybody moving at a fast pace i will try and use hand haled camera so we have a range of camera movements in our film.

Frendo

The boys mouth turns clown like towards the middle of this film as a result of karma for treating his friends badly. This film has a lot of red in it as if it's a warning to the boy, ase see a lot of red before his face turns like that. The camera concentrates on close-ups on the red for example the seat belt plug and the red on the mouse scroller. Which is why i think that the red at the begining is a warning to the boy and to show the viewers something bad is going to happen as red is a colour of warning.

The lack of dialogue in this film potrays the emotion and allows the viewer to concentrate on the storyline more then the talking. At first i didn't get the storyline until i watched it more then once.
